On a Personal Note........

I am writing this to most of the people I know in and around Jacksonville, St. Augustine and the World Golf Village, to recommend a computer technician extraordinaire. His name is Eddie Roberts and his company is Diversified Data Systems, Inc. or DDSIAmerica. His email address is support@ddsiamerica.com, his website address is www.ddsiamerica.com, his office is located in the Fruitcove area off Roberts Road and his phone number is 827-7005. He has been in the computer industry for 34 years and was the IT manager for Watson Realty and was a contract technician for Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Just a little background to my recommendation: I work out of my home and have a desktop and laptop computer that I used heavily. My desk top picked up a virus a few years ago and I have had several so called computer wizards work on it. No help and significant dollars out the window. It operates sooooooo slooooooow. Very frustrating.

Then my laptop got a virus about 2 months ago and just wouldn’t do anything. Someone gave me a coupon to use CompUSA as they advertised that they would remove all viruses and speed it up for $100. I took it in and all they did was reformat the drive. Yup, lost everything. And they put on their software that made the computer run slower than the desktop and it would not print using the wireless router. I was about to pull the rest of my hair out.

Then Sally Hargreaves, our good friend and neighbor, recommended Eddie to me and spoke highly of him and his work. I hesitated for a few days and finally called him. That was Tuesday. He came out Wednesday at 10:30am. Explained that he would take my desktop to his office and run some repair program on it overnight and would bring it back at 10:30 Thursday.

At 10:30 Thursday he came back with it and it now runs as good as I ever remembered it running. He removed all of my protection programs and put the one he uses on it and also put another program on it, that when I have a problem, just call him, give him the codes from his program and he can work on my system from his office. This was no additional charge. For a total of $150. I am in hog heaven, it works so good. Now the really good part.

I asked him to look at the laptop and within 20 minutes, he took all of the junk CompUSA put on, off and installed his own protection program and had it printing. It is now faster than the desktop.

Bottom line. Over the years I have had numerous people work on my systems and did not have the experience I have had with Eddie in the past 2 days. I could not recommend him more highly. This guy really knows what he is doing.

I just could not help but recommend him. If you now need computer help or in the future, Eddie is great. By the way I have no interest in Eddie’s company. I just finally found the wizard that I have been looking for and wanted to share the joy. Thanks for the recommendation Sally.

If you do your own work or your happy with the technician that you have been using, sorry for bothering you.

Still Bad News on VISTA
June 8th, 2008 1:49 PM

My recent customers are certainly aware that the move to VISTA has been somewhat bumpy for XP users.  I am consulting with other leaders in the software industry and we are sharing techniques and patches to make the VISTA environment more user friendly.  First you need to turn off the security environment settings called "User Account Cointrol (UAC)"to disable the allow/disallow questions.  By doing this simple step will save you many keystrokes during a normal workday.
